We'd like to wish everyone a very Happy Easter - please encourage family and friends to adopt the Make Mine Chocolate Campaign and boycott pet shops and breeders and to buy a chocolate or toy Easter bunny NOT a real one.
Please remember to rescue an animal friend, please don't buy.
Hello to our latest intakes; FIVE ex-caged hens who came to us in a terrible state.
Two hens couldn't walk, one has a problem with her rear end and all are almost featherless. Thankfully two hens that we have had for about six weeks now have feathered up so much that they are unrecognisable from the tiny scrawny ladies that arrived here. They were literally crying out and jumping away from us in fright when first arriving - now they follow the lady who gives them food everywhere.
One little lady, the sixth hen we took in, was so incredibly ill that she died just 24 hours after she grasped her freedom. She was full of a substance that blocks her oviduct and leads to misery and pain; so much for how great eggs are.... these hens are bred to produce eggs at a phenomenal rate and so egg problems in ex-commercial hens and obviously hens still in the cruel system, are high. She died of a heart attack out in the sunshine she never could appreciate due to being so poorly - shame on the farmers who put these super individual creatures through so much.
Below are Iddy and Biddy starting to feather-up after just three weeks in our care.
Piggy Stories
The area of land that we were cultivating for rescuing pigs has had to come to a temporary halt due to the wet weather. However, when it is finished it will be alongside our new wildlife area that should flourish this Spring and later in the year - exciting times in 2016 we hope.
