December 2013 Newsletter

December 2013

We would like to send a special THANK YOU to the following people and organisations whose help and support has been invaluable:

The Shuman Trust, Matt and Claire, Elaine, Mary and David, Kathy and Chris, Gaia Creams, SoOrganic, Shop Vegan, Nicky, The Jean Sainsbury Animal Welfare Trust, Lee and Jane.

We would like to THANK Gracie, Mrs. Purple, Mrs. Yellow, Mrs. Blue and our nine beautiful rescued ex-colony hennies who actually came to us in a worse state than our ex-battery hennies. We would also like to thank Charlie.

One of our sheepSummer 2013

The summer, which now seems like a long time ago, was of course the hottest we have ever had. Our water supply was always precarious (we rely on a well and water tanks) and without rain it is used up very quickly - we had to buy water in which was expensive so we are looking to purchase two new water tanks equaling 4,000 litres so that we can prevent anything like this happening again. If you would like to donate to this appeal please click here, many, many thanks. We cannot express how precious water is and we really only learned this after moving here and TOTALLY relying on the rain for our water supply.

Nine new hennies from the ex-colony system

Back in May we rescued hennies from the ex-colony system and we were saddened but not surprised to see that they were in the same if not Nine hennies from the ex-colony systemworse state than ex-battery hens. One was tiny and almost completely bald, another had a huge swollen eye, another hennie had a cut on her eye, another lady couldn't use her right leg, one hennie was so scared she just ran around trying to avoid everyone and everything; very sad to see. Six months later they are the naughtiest group of hens you will ever find and of course the most lovable!! The lady who I am most proud of is the lady who was scared of everything, it was a delight to see her become a confident and feathered lady who, although knows her place, doesn't let the other hennies get away with anything like they did at first and the best day was when she was having a dust bath and someone came to budge her out and she stayed where she was head down until the other hennie gave up and she carried on with her dust bath, I was soooooooo proud of her xx

We will miss old CharlieAnimals that have sadly left us

We never get used to our animals dying and hopefully they have all crossed Rainbow Bridge where they will never have to worry about anything ever again. We miss them very much and hope that the brief time spent with us made up for the time they suffered at the hands of those who haven't any compassion whatsoever. It is always especially sad when rescued hennies do not have more time out of the cage than in it but it's quality not quantity so fly, run and hop free little ones, we miss you all x

Charity Commission

We became a registered charity back in July which was great. It doesn't mean donations come flooding in but it does mean we are regulated and it does give us more credibility when applying for grants, contacting schools and colleges and dealing with the media. We are very pleased that we are registered and hope that people recognise the hard work that we are carrying out on behalf of the animals.

Animal Aid

Sadly after a brilliant Animal Aid Cruelty-free Christmas Fayre 2012 in London we did not have a stall this year as we couldn't find anyone to take care of the animals, oh the irony!! Anyway we hope all of you who attended had a great time and for those of you who did not go please see Animal Aid's website for how to have a COMPASSIONATE Christmas, New Year and beyond.

Compassionate Lifestyle

Animals suffer on a daily basis in laboratories, factory farms, fur farms, circuses, marine parks, bullfighting rings, hunted, in the pet trade etc etc and it's so easy to get downhearted but living a compassionate lifestyle is so easy nowadays that each of us can make sure that we are doing all we can to help; please share how easy it is with family, friends and strangers!!

Funds

I am writing this on the coldest day so far, we awoke to snow.... Thankfully we had bought in our winter supply (we hope) of straw and hay just last week so we were for a change well prepared!!

If you would like to make a donation to our winter feed/ bedding appeal then please make a donation today, the animals and ourselves would be very grateful.

We would also like to thank all the animals who have passed through our rescue, remain here permanently or who are awaiting their new and loving home. They have all taught us something new and benefited our lives.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at Forget-Me-Not Animal Rescue

Saving the life of one animal won't change the world, but it will change the world of that particular animal
